In Short
Hayden Adams and Uniswap are a useful reminder that lower legal risk does not automatically create token value. The SEC closing its investigation mattered, but the market still asks a harder question about UNI: how does protocol value flow back to the token?
What Changed Legally?
In 2025, the SEC closed its investigation into Uniswap Labs without filing an enforcement action. That was a major signal for DeFi because Uniswap is one of the most visible decentralized exchange protocols in the market.
But this does not solve every DeFi regulatory question. It simply gives Uniswap more room to operate while market attention moves back to tokenomics.
Why Legal Relief Is Not Enough
UNI has long functioned mainly as a governance token. Governance rights can matter, but they do not always create a clear economic story. If the protocol processes huge volume while token holders do not see a visible value link, the market discounts that gap.
That is why the Uniswap Foundation’s UNIfication proposal matters. Fee switch logic, burn mechanics and ecosystem alignment are attempts to create a stronger connection between protocol usage and the token. It is not a guaranteed price catalyst, but it gives the market a better question to analyze: can revenue logic and governance work together?

For Uniswap, the story is no longer only about what regulators do. The real question is whether DeFi protocols can build sustainable economic models without losing their open and permissionless nature.
UNI becomes a stronger investment narrative only if the market can understand it not just as voting power, but as an asset connected to protocol value flow. That requires governance decisions, legal caution and real user activity at the same time.
What To Watch
- Whether UNIfication and fee switch proposals are approved and implemented.
- Whether Uniswap volume and fee generation hold up during stress.
- How other DeFi protocols address value accrual.
- Whether the US regulatory environment continues to become clearer.
