As expected, the team behind Monero (XMR) is committed to standing up for its users and miners and doesn't want to let ASIC machines take over. The mining machine built on the CryptoNight algorithm was therefore practically (from the perspective of the more worthwhile XMR Coin) Bitmain Antminer X3 sentenced to death from the moment of its announcement.
I think with this move they're also showing the Bitmain team that okay guys, you're capable of assembling a machine with incredible performance and with it you can even influence the entire market, but we won't let this go as easily as you might have initially thought.
Now here's the exact date and the Proof-Of-Work change is coming, so the Fork will practically arrive in a few days, and anyone can view the exact time and most important information on a countdown page: http://xmr.noctism.com

The official announcement and exact details are at: https://getmonero.org/2018/02/11/PoW-change-and-key-reuse.html
728×90 or responsive
I'd emphasize that this change and the Monero team have nothing to do with MoneroV, which I wrote about earlier: https://kriptoblog.hu/monero-xmr-hard-fork-2018-monerov-atveres-lenne
So anyone who's been thinking about spending the price of a new car on a Bitmain Antminer X3 — here's the answer for why not to, since practically in a few days the machine will become unsuitable for Monero (XMR) mining once they switch to the CryptoNightV7 algorithm. But if you still really want to buy one, you've already missed the first two shipping dates, but here's the new date and new prices:
- Antminer X3 – Batch 3
- Shipping: May 15-31, 2018 after
- Price: 3,000 USD (0.35157623 BTC; 3.06636629 BCH; 18.70149184 LTC;)
- Approximately 750,000 forints for the Bitmain Antminer X3 available in Batch 3 after the first delivery cycle, plus the power supply, shipping costs, and customs processing fees (which must be paid to the domestic customs office)
Our fourth and cheapest option:
- Antminer X3 – Batch 4
- Shipping: June 15-31, 2018 after
- Price: 1,900 USD (0.22266495 BTC; 1.94203198 BCH; 11.84427816 LTC;)
- Approximately 480,000 forints for the Bitmain Antminer X3 available in Batch 4 after the second delivery cycle, plus the power supply, shipping costs, and customs processing fees (which must be paid to the domestic customs office)
Meanwhile NiceHash:
Announced (https://www.nicehash.com/news/monero-pow-change-cryptonightv7-algorithm) that it will also support the new CryptoNightV7 algorithm and is expected to make CryptoNightV7 mining available to all of us in the next software update.
